Hi y’all doing?! It’s been a long time since I don’t write something in English, but this weekend I was super inspired because in ONLY ONCE we have a destination wedding in our city: Mexico City, you already know that I lived one year in United States right?, there I discovered my passion for weddings, but american weddings are super different from the mexican ones and last weekend I remembered it specially when my couple were surprised about everything I said about our weddings, so, that’s why today I am gonna give you the 10 THINGS YOU MUST KNOW IF YOU COME TO A MEXICAN WEDDING! Take notes!
1. More than 8 hours
We loooove to party and our weddings are around 12 to 15 hours, so don’t get surprised if you received a quotation for so many hours, all the vendors are used to it and even sometimes the DJ is ilimited, they play until the last guest stay at the party.

2. We eat a lot
We as a Mexicans know that a wedding is synonymous of food and alcohol, so we always expect food since the welcome cocktail, we need to eat each 2 or 2 and half hours in order to not get wasted with so many alcohol, that’s why 99% of our wedding are served service with a regular meal or dinner of 3 or even 4 courses and we have what we call: TORNABODA, which is, once you are wasted you want food and its the typical mexican street food, everything goes after eating tacos or chilaquiles.

3. It’s not all about Tequila!
Maybe you must think that is the only thing we drink in parties right?? noooot! nowadays we have mixologists that create some special drinks for the wedding, but, we still have the beer for cocktails and some mezcal’s bar in order to get in the mood, we basically drink all the liquors you already know!

4. Munchies Bar
We probably don’t have the cake tradition as many countries but what we have a special “Munchies bar”, yes! we decorate and have a special table of spicy and chili caramels that are served once the party it’s ON, we always look for the spicy thing in our lifes.

5. Different looks and feels
If you are getting married in Mexico City, you must forget the idea of just Haciendas, Patios or Gardens, in the city we have different venues with mesmerizing looks that makes you feel in different scenarios even if you are in the middle of downtown, so forget about the idea of just a Mexican Chic Style, because Mexicans Weddings are nowadays TOP in Latin America.
6. About music
OK! Let’s talk about the music moments in a Mexican Wedding, we have music of course in the ceremony, then in the cocktail area (singer, violin players, etc), banquet music (we have different options such as jazz, marimba, sax, etc), for the party we have DJ or versatile groups, so If you come to a Mexican Wedding your should bring the most comfortable shoes and be prepared to dance a lot!

7. No! we don’t play just Reggaeton!
OH LORD!! this is what my couple asked me last weekend and I was shocked!! First of all Reggaeton music is not a Mexican one, it’s latino music, yes! we do play Reggaeton as a part of latin rhythms but we have salsa, cumbia, regional music, pop rock, pop, 80’s – 90’s – 00’s! Can you imagine 8 hours of party with the same rhythm? Forget about that kind of music we have different options, definitely you’ll learn how to move your hips!
8. Not small weddings
One of the most important thing for us is family, so our weddings are not small, actually for us a wedding of 100 guest isn’t a big one, in the last 6 years of being Wedding Planner I specialized in big weddings, the ones who have a complex logistic, they are around 400 – 750 guests, so don’t get overwhelming when most of the venues are big or have a lot room for a party of 100-120 guests.

9. Mariachi & Banda
For us Mariachi and Regional Band are for the end of the wedding, when everybody is wasted, happy and enjoying the TORNABODA (tacos and chilaquiles) so, you better ask first the Mariachi is they are available for an early hour because they are not used to; specially for a wedding.
10. Love, party, drink, repeat
We believe in love, we are romantics, we believe in family, we believe in fairytales too, so for us a wedding it’s to celebrate a love story with the ones you really care, we party because it’s part of our culture, we drink because we are latin people and tequila it’s on our blood, so let yourself enjoy what a mexican party looks like!

Next time you are coming to a Mexican Wedding make sure to read the 10 point above and my best suggestion will be always being open mind, enjoy and feel part of a culture of parties, dance, music and LOVE.
With love and common sense,
Cecy Pineda
